History of the laboratory
Department of Bacterial animal diseases and control of the VIP (Veterinary immunological preparations) (earlier – associative infections) of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine was founded in 1977 in Kiev as the laboratory of swine diseases. The main goal of the laboratory is animal infectious pathology study and creation and improvement of new diagnostic kits, biological preparations to protect animal populations from dangerous and especially dangerous pathogens.
The first Leader of Department (1977- 2010) was Ph.D. Pavlov Yevgeniy Grigorovich – the famous scientist – epizootologist, bacteriologist and specialist by swine diseases.
The laboratory staff
Ayshpur Olena – Head of the Laboratory
Mushtuk Irina – Senior Researcher
Huhley Mariya – technical worker
Sheremet Nataliya – veterinary doctor
Kovalchuk Marina – technical worker
The main directions of research works
The main directions of research works of laboratory of the Bacterial animal diseases and control of the VIP were and remain such :
- study and development of theoretical and practical aspects of infectious pathology of pigs;
- creation of specific preventives preparations against the most widespread bacillosiss of pigs;
- a grant of consultative and practical help to the pigfarms in the questions of prophylaxis and treatment of swine diseases.
The main scientific achievements of the laboratory
As a result of implementation of research works for practice such immunobiological preparations were worked out :
- a vaccine against colibacteriosis of piglets from the local strains of E.coli;
- a vaccine against Glasser’s disease of pigs (1992) ;
- associated vaccine against Glasser’s disease and salmonellosis of pigs (1998) ;
- vaccine “Haemoenterotoxal” – associative vaccines porcine Glasser’s disease, salmonellosis and edema disease (2006-2012).
In pigfarm at presence of 15 thousand pigs on condition of the associated virus-bacterial motion of respiratory swine diseases of application of “Haemoenterotoxal” – associative vaccines porcine Glasser’s disease, salmonellosis and edema disease of the laboratory of the associated infections worked out by employees (E.G.Pavlov, O.Y.Ayshpur, J.G Pavlova) assisted the stop of epizootic process. For period of the use of vaccine general departure of piglets went down twice. Additionally among vaccine animals almost 700 pigs are stored. At that pigfarm got a sale more than 400 thousand hrn., that in many times exceeds expenses on a vaccine.
In the pigfarm on 10 000 sows diagnostic studies were undertaken on determination of reason of the complex of respiratory diseases of pigs. The educed etiologic factors became basis for instituting control above these diseases. In the chart of curative and prophylactic treatments of animals preparations were used worked out by the employees of our laboratory.
Works of laboratory are protected by 5 certificates, one patent of the USSR, by the 3 patents of Ukraine.
In our laboratory museum are stored and maintained more than 100 strains of bacterias, such as:
- E.coli
- Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Mycoplasma hyorginis
- choleraesuis, Salm. typhymurium, Salm. pullorum gallinarum
- Pasteurella multocida Pasteurella haemolitica
- Bordetella bronchiseptica
- Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris
- A.pleurophneumoniae
- H.parasuis
- Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus aureus
- Enterobacter spp.
- Citrobacter spp.
- Klebsiella pneumonia
