In March 22, 2018, a scientific workshop “Leptospirosis: current concerns” was held at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the NAAS. IVM staff and representatives of the Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University (Head of the Department of Epizootology and Infectious Diseases, Professor Kornienko L.E. and Associate Professor of the Department of Epizootology and Infectious Diseases Tsarenko T.M.).
Workshop highlighted the following challenges concerning this disease: characteristics of natural sources of leptospirosis; development and tests of molecular genetic methods for leptospirosis diagnostics; development of an enzyme immunoassay for the animal leptospirosis diagnostics; genotyping of pathogenic Leptospira by multilocus variable-number tandem repeat analysis.
